The principal of Gohail Islamia High School and College in Bogra's Shahjahanpur area has allegedly misappropriated Tk1 crore under the pretext of recruitment by forging the signature of his predecessor.
The educational institution's ad hoc committee and those who were reportedly cheated by him have written to the education minister and the director of secondary and higher education in Rajshahi zone.
In addition to accused principal Motahar Hossain Mukul, seven other teachers of the institute are also accused of graft and irregularities.
Upon receiving the complaints, the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education (DSHE) formed two committees and both have completed their investigations into the allegations.
Principal Motahar denies the allegations and claims they are part of a conspiracy against him.
Motahar joined the college in 2002 as a lecturer of the Islamic history department. Abdul Jabbar was the principal at the time.
Soon after Motahar became principal in 2010, he issued two recruitment circulars in newspapers by forging the signature of the former principal. He appointed at least seven teachers at the institute in exchange for bribes amounting to at least Tk1 crore, according to the complainants.
Majnu Sarkar, one of the victims, alleged that Motahar took Tk800,000 from him and promised him the post of assistant headmaster.
"When I refused to give him another Tk500,000 in bribes, he recruited another candidate," Manju said, adding that the principal threatened him with dire consequences whenever he asked for his money back.
Majnu has filed a case over the matter.
Abdul Matin said Motahar meddled the potential recruitment of Hamim, a candidate for the post of computer lab assistant at the college.
"I myself handed over Tk6 lakh from Hamim to Principal Motahar. The deal was to pay Tk12 lakh in total, but the principal hired someone else who bribed him Tk6 lakh more," Matin said.
Ali Imam, president of the adhoc committee of the educational institute, said they have accused eight people, including the principal and his wife, over the scams.
"We have demanded proper legal action, the removal of the accused and justice for the victims," he added.
Meanwhile, Motahar said the DSHE had formed two probe committees over what he claimed were false allegations.
"A vested group is hatching a conspiracy against us as ours is an MPO-listed (monthly pay order) college," the principal added.
When contacted, Rajshahi zone Secondary and Higher Education Director Md Kamal Hossain refused to comment on the findings of probe committees.
The probe reports will be submitted to the director general of the DSHE, he added.
