A suspected robber was murdered in a mob attack in Sitakunda upazila’s Barabkunda area of Chittagong on Monday.
The identity of the deceased could not be identified. The victim was about 63 years old.
Due to frequent robbery incidents, locals took an initiative to prevent it as much as possible by being on guard every night. They stated that there have been a rise in the number of robberies recently as 13 cases of robbery have been filed in local police stations in the last one month.
Sumon Banik, officer-in-charge at Sitakunda police station, stated that a gang of robbers entered the village early Monday morning, consisting of 12-13 members.
Locals in the village sensed their presence and chased them down. They were able to capture one of the gang members. Later, they gave him a thrashing, leaving him critically injured.
The police went to their location and took the victim to a local hospital, where the doctors declared him dead.
