A college student in Sunamganj jumped off a moving bus after the driver and helper sexually harassed and attempted to rape her.
The incident happened in Sujanagar area of Derai upazila on Saturday evening.
The girl fell into a nearby ditch and severely injured her head and legs. Locals rescued the girl and admitted her to Derai Upazila Health Complex. Later, she was shifted to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College for better treatment.
Medical Officer of Derai Upazila Health Complex Dr Bidyut Ranjan Talukder confirmed the matter.
Derai police station Officer-in-Charge Ashraful Islam said, on information, police seized the bus of Fahad and Maisha Paribahan; however, the driver and helper are absconding.
The girl’s uncle said that she had identified the bus driver as Shahid from Mollargao village of Sylhet’s Jalalabad. Her father filed a case with Derai police station in this regard.
Meanwhile, the girl’s relatives and locals, including students, took to the streets on Saturday to protest against the incident, demanding immediate arrest and exemplary punishment for the driver and helper.
Superintendent of Police Md Mizanur Rahman said several teams of police are working in the field to arrest the accused.
