The Jagannath University (JnU) unit of Chhatra Odhikar Parishad has submitted a memorandum with three demands, including the addition of more shuttle buses and an overall increase in the number of university buses for students.

The memorandum was submitted on Thursday to the university's transport director, Associate Professor Tareque Bin Atique.

According to the memorandum, students are facing increasing difficulties with the university's transport system.

It noted that the two shuttle buses departing from campus at 1:30pm are grossly inadequate compared to the number of students. As a large number of students leave campus at that time, the limited number of buses are forced to operate with excessive passengers.

Highlighting the students’ suffering, the memorandum further said that the total number of university buses is insufficient to meet student demand, leading to difficulties throughout the day, especially in the morning and afternoon.

Students travelling from distant areas are often left stranded due to the unavailability of transport, the memorandum said.

AKM Rakib, president of the Chhatra Odhikar Parishad JnU unit, said: “The administration has shown a positive attitude towards our demands. We are hopeful that the authorities will soon take the necessary steps.”

The three demands include: increasing the number of shuttle buses operating at 1:30pm by at least two; raising the total number of university buses proportionate to the number of students to ensure sufficient transport during peak hours; and developing an integrated transport plan to ensure proper bus management based on regular demand and passenger load analysis.
