Like most other educational institutions of the country, Chittagong University (CU) also chalked out various programs to celebrate Bangladesh's 50th Victory Day on Wednesday.
However, in a bizarre turn of events, the university authorities held the discussion on Victory Day with a banner that had the image of the Central Shaheed Minar imprinted on it.
In one of the event photos that was obtained by Dhaka Tribune, it is seen that some top level officials of the university including Vice-Chancellor (VC) Dr Shireen Akhter are holding the banner after paying homage to the martyrs of the Liberation War of 1971.
According to the banner, VC Shireen presided over the discussion.
Meanwhile, the image of the event has already gone viral on different social media platforms and netizens have heavily criticized the mistake.
In a Facebook group named “Publician,” one Albi Anil Binod wrote: “Rest in Peace #CU.”
Another Facebook user Ashraful Haque commented: “To be honest, they celebrated the day only to show-off. Otherwise, everything would have been okay.”
When contacted, CU Registrar Prof SM Monirul Hassan confessed to the blunder and said: “There is nothing to refute here. A mistake is a mistake.
"We are going to make those responsible for what happened pay.”
The registrar also claimed that he did not attend any of the events celebrating Victory Day on the university campus.
