The temperature across the country has started to fall little by little — it has dropped by one-two degree(s) Celsius in all eight divisions.
On top of that, the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has forecast light rain or drizzle in the north and central parts of the country,.
According to the BMD, seasonal low pressure existed in the Bay of Bengal and an extension of this was located in the north Bay. The extension of the subcontinental high pressure zone extended to India’s Bihar and its adjoining areas.
As a result, the weather may remain mainly dry with partly cloudy skies over the country. Light rain/drizzle is likely at one or two places over Rangpur, Rajshahi, and Mymensingh divisions and there might be moderate to thick fog over the country from midnight till noon.
On Saturday, the lowest temperature in the country was recorded in Chuadanga of Khulna Division — 12.6°C.

Meanwhile, the lowest temperature in Dhaka was 17.6°C on Friday and it dropped to 16.4°C on Saturday.
Similarly, in Mymensingh, the lowest temperature on Friday was 15.6°C and it decreased to 14.4°C on Saturday; in Chittagong, it was 17.4°C on Friday and 16.5°C on Saturday; in Sylhet, it was 16.4°C on Friday and 15.5°C on Saturday; in Rajshahi, it was 16°C on Friday and 14.6°C on Saturday; in Rangpur, it was 16.3°C on Friday and 15°C on Saturday; in Khulna, it was 16°C on Friday and 14°C on Saturday; and in Barisal, it was 16.3°C on Friday and 13.6°C on Saturday.
BMD meteorologists said from December 17 or 18, the temperature may start to fall further and at that time a cold wave may blow over the country for a week.
Cold with dense fog disrupts normal life in Chittagong
Dense fog and cold wave has paralyzed life in Chittagong and its adjacent areas, causing immense sufferings to thousands of people, reports BSS.
Chittagong witnessed intolerable cold with dense fog as cold wave was sweeping over different parts of the region, said a senior meteorologist at the district Met Office.
He said the temperature is likely to increase a little from Monday. The lowest temperature in Chittagong on Saturday was recorded at 14°C in the city’s Patenga area.
There may be moderate to thick fog at places in Chittagong and its adjacent districts from midnight to morning for the next 24 hours, the sources said.
Normal life was disrupted in the district due to bone-chilling cold.
Many children and elderly people were suffering from various cold-related diseases, Dr Enshad Ekram Ullah of Chittagong Medical College Hospital told BSS.
Street people were seen to light fires to keep themselves warm as the sun remained invisible in the morning due to dense fog.
Traffic control room of Chittagong Shah Amanat International Airport sources said dense fog had disrupted flight operations at the airport on Saturday. Airport sources said the flight schedule of domestic and international flights was changed for one to three hours due to dense fogs.
Omar Faruk, secretary of Chittagong Port authority, said due to thick fog, plying of all kinds of ships in port channel remained suspended for two or three hours in early hours on Saturday.
The port authority was compelled to impose a ban on movements of all vessels till 9am to and from Chittagong owing to poor visibility, radio control room of Chittagong port sources said.
Railway authorities issued special warnings to avoid train accidents due to fog. In addition to setting up an emergency cell, the transport department issued official orders to operate trains in light of the instructions of the transport department staff including the driver, guard and station master.
