Ferry services resume on Paturia-Daulatdia route after 9 hours

The disruption of ferry movement has been continuing on this route for five consecutive days

Ferry movement on the Paturia-Daulatdia route has resumed after nine hours suspension to avert any untoward incident due to dense fog.

The ferry movement resumed after 9am on Thursday when the dense fog started to disappear,

The disruption of ferry movement has been continuing on this route for five consecutive days.

Deputy General Manager (DGM) of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC), Paturia terminal, Zillur Rahman said the ferry services on Paturia-Daulatdia route was suspended from 12am on Wednesday due to poor visibility as the dense fog blanketed the river route.

During this period, four ferries loaded with vehicles and passengers were stranded in the middle of the Padma River leaving the sufferings of hundreds of passengers in the cold wave. Other ferries were stranded both the sides of the river loaded with vehicles including passenger buses, trucks and private cars.

About 400 vehicles including night couches, trucks and private cars were seen stuck on the queue at Paturia terminal Thursday morning.

Paturia terminal sources said besides ferries all kinds of engine driven boats including launches were also suspended during this period.

A total of 16 ferries are now playing the Paturia-Daulatdia route to transport the stranded vehicles, Zillur Rahman said.
