Ferry services resume after 12 hours on Paturia-Daulatdia, Shimulia-Banglabazar route

Previously, ferry services on Shimulia-Banglabazar and Paturia-Daulatdia resumed about 11 hours after it was suspended from early Tuesday

Ferry services on Paturia-Daulatdia and Shimulia-Banglabazar have resumed after being suspended for 12 and 7.5 hours respectively due to dense fog since late Tuesday.

The services on Paturia-Daulatdia and Shimulia-Banglabazar resumed around 10am and 6am on Wednesday as the fog started to clear.

Hundreds of vehicles got stuck on both terminals following the suspension of the ferry services.

To avoid the accident, the Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) authorities suspended all ferry services from around 10:30pm on Tuesday.

Khorshed Alam, assistant manager (commerce) of Daulatdia Ghat, BIWTC, said: “After the ferry services resumed, vehicles carrying passengers are being allowed to cross the river on priority basis.”

Shafiqul Islam, deputy general manager of Shimulia Ghat, BIWTC, said: “Four ferries were anchored in the middle of the river which have finally reached their destinations. Currently, 13 ferries are plying the route."

“More than 300 vehicles, mostly cargo vehicles, were stuck at the ghat while waiting to traverse the river.”

Previously, ferry services on Shimulia-Banglabazar and Paturia-Daulatdia resumed about 11 hours after it was suspended from early Tuesday due to poor visibility caused by dense fog.
