Ex-GTV journo held with 107 yaba tablets at Cox's Bazar Airport

Security officials have detained a local journalist along with 107 pieces of yaba tablets from Cox's Bazar Airport. Airport sources said the security officials had found the yaba tablets in possession of Nazir Ahmed, editor of Cox's Bazar-based daily "Shimanto," while they were searching him at the immigration checkpoint. Nazir also claimed to work as the Teknaf correspondent for various media outlets including private TV channel GTV. He was scheduled to leave for Dhaka on a Novoair flight. Cox's Bazar Airport Manager Sadhan Kumar Mohanta told the Dhaka Tribune that they had already handed over the detained journalist to the police. Cox's Bazar Sadar police station Officer-in-Charge Ranajit Kumar Barua said they were preparing to file a case in this connection. GTV's Chittagong Bureau denied having any ties to Nazir. Their bureau chief Anindya Titu said Nazir used to work for GTV, but he had been let go eight months ago. Earlier in 2015, GTV's Cox's Bazar Correspondent Selim and his wife were detained with 40,000 pieces of yaba tablets in Chittagong.
