Conspirators belonging to anti-liberation forces are opposing the installation of the Bangabandhu sculpture, says Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque

Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque on Wednesday called upon those misleading the general people on Bangabandhu’s sculpture to seek an apology.

“Otherwise, the people will take action in reprisal to misinterpretation of sculpture,” he said while speaking as the chief guest at a condolence meeting on noted cultural personality Aly Zaker and renowned footballer Badal Roy at the Jatiya Press Club (JPC) in Dhaka.

Bangabandhu Sangskritik Jote (BSJ) had organized the program.

“Particular conspirators belonging to the anti-liberation force are showing audacity by opposing the installation of a Bangabandhu sculpture,” Mozammel said.

He said that all the Muslim-dominated countries in the world have sculptures and Bangladesh has had statues for a long time, adding that no noticeable remarks were on the issue then.

Terming the opposition of Bangabandhu’s sculpture as an integral part of the conspiracy by anti-liberation forces, the minister said the successors of those who opposed the 52’s language movement, 54’s and 70’s elections, and the Liberation War in 1971 in the name of Islam, are now misleading the people on this issue in the name of religion.

He warned the conspirators and said that the valiant freedom fighters won’t sit idle when Bangabandhu, the constitution and the spirit of the Liberation War, faces any untoward situation, adding: “After the Liberation War, the freedom fighters had surrendered their weapons but they didn’t surrender their training.”

During the program, the minister recalled the contribution of the two legends – Aly Zaker and Badal Roy – for their outstanding contributions in the fields of culture and sports of the country respectively.

Chaired by Lion Chittaranjan Das, advisor of BSJ and a councillor of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC), the condolence meeting also was addressed, among others, by singer SD Rubel, valiant fighter Shafiqul Bahar Majumder Tipu, Awami League leader MA Karim, BSJ’s General Secretary Arun Sarker Rana, and Bangabandhu Gobeshana Parishad President Lion Gani Mia Babul.
