3 more bodies found in Rangamati landslides

Three more bodies were recovered from Shimultoli and  Vedvedi, area of Rangamati on Wednesday, raising the death toll to 120 in landslide due to recent incessant downpour. Manzarul Mannan, deputy commissioner (DC) of Rangamati, confirmed the news in a press briefing in the afternoon in presence of Moazzem Hossain, additional deputy magistrate and Prokash Kanti Chowdhury, additional deputy commissioner. The bodies could not be identified immediately, he added. According previous reports published in Dhaka Tribune, at least 117 people died and hundreds injured in the district recent landslides. Landslides have also taken lives in the neighbouring hilly districts, but Rangamati municipal area and its neighbourhoods are the most affected. Thousands of locals have left their homes and taken refuge in shelters and public buildings. Abu Bakr Siddique, a van driver from the city’s Keranipara area said he and his mother had taken shelter at the Police Line School but his father was still at home. Meanwhile, the district deputy commissioner was scheduled to hold a meeting with various agencies for disaster response Manzarul told the Dhaka Tribune: “Our officials are extensively working to recover the people who are still missing .”
