2 killed, 2 critically injured in Bhola balloon gas cylinder blast

One of the injured lost a hand and was taken to Bhola District Hospital

Two people were killed and at least two others were injured when a gas cylinder used to inflate balloons exploded in Bhola’s Borhanuddin upazila on Friday night.

The incident took place in Batamara Nosu's shop intersection area of the upazila around 9pm, according to locals and sources from Borhanuddin Fire Service.

One of the deceased was identified as Hasnain, 18, son of a local, Basu Hawlader. The other victim is the balloon vendor whose identity could not immediately be known.

Borhanuddin police station Officer-in-Charge Mazharul Amin said police are looking into the probable cause behind the explosion.

Faulty gas pipelines and substandard cylinders often cause accidents in Bangladesh due to lax monitoring, according to other media reports.

The two injured were taken to Bhola District Hospital from Borhanuddin Upazila Health Complex in critical condition. One of them lost a hand.
