Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) launched a mosquito eradication program in the city on Wednesday.

While formally inaugurating the program, the CCC Administrator Khorshed Alam Sujon said that most of the city’s canals are clogged up with garbage and the corporation has begun to clean up the waste for eradicating mosquitoes.

Sujon also urged the city dwellers to keep their premises clean and not to throw non-biodegradable items into the water bodies.

He also warned of taking stern actions against people for dumping non-perishable items into the city’s water bodies.

“We are planning to spray WHO-approved environment-friendly insecticide for destroying the breeding grounds of mosquitoes. It is possible to remain protected from diseases like dengue and malaria if we become aware,” said the administrator.
