At least 30 to 40 people have been injured in the attack

Nagorik Oikya Convenor Mahmudur Rahman Manna’s vehicle has been vandalized in Rupganj, Narayanganj.

The attack took place on Monday evening.

At the time of the attack, Manna was at BNP chairperson’s Adviser Adv Taimur Alam Khandakar’s house for an event to celebrate his birthday and pray for Khaleda Zia’s health.

At least 30 to 40 people were injured during the attack allegedly carried out by local Jubo League and Chhatra League members.

“When the attack took place, I was speaking at a Doa Mahfil organized for Khaleda Zia’s health recovery and celebrating the 68th birthday of Adv Taimur Alam Khandakar.

“Around 10 to 15 men chanting ‘Joy Bangla,’ ‘Joy Bangabandhu’ slogan attacked people at the private venue and vandalized the whole place,” Manna said.

“I came back to Dhaka with police protection and later came to know that they (the attackers) vandalized my vehicle and had beaten my driver,” he said.

Manna also said: “The government is talking about resistance on the one hand and is attacking the opposition and the people on the other. Many were victims to such attacks and today the same happened with me.”

The upazila Chhatra League President Faisal Shikder denied the allegations of any attack and told Dhaka Tribune: “I have no idea about the attack; I came to know about it when police called me and asked about it (the attack).

“None of Chhatra League members are involved in the attack and right now I am in Dhaka, therefore the allegation against me carrying out the attack is completely wrong.”

Rupganj police station Officer-In-Charge Mahmudul Hasan told this correspondent: “Till now we did not receive any complaint about it, formally. After we were informed about some chaos by local BNP members, we immediately sent a police force over there.”
