A seventh-grade student allegedly assaulted a teacher with a wooden stick after being reprimanded for violating classroom discipline at BIAM Model School and College in Bogra.

The incident occurred beside the western side of the institution at around 4:30pm on Monday. The student was issued a permanent transfer certificate (TC) on Tuesday morning.

The teacher, Abu Raihan, a physical education instructor, suffered injuries to his neck and jaw and required eight stitches.

According to teachers and students, the boy, a student of Class VII, Section B, was frequently inattentive in class and had been involved in disciplinary violations, including hitting classmates.

On Monday, Raihan took the student to the vice-principal after reprimanding him over his behaviour. The student was asked to bring his parents to school and was told that a TC could be issued. He allegedly became enraged over the decision.

Later that afternoon, after school ended, Raihan was leaving the campus on his motorcycle when the student, who was waiting on a road beside the school, called him over and struck him on the neck and jaw with a tree branch before fleeing.

Other teachers and students rescued Raihan and took him to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital in Bogra. He was later released and is recovering at home.

A video showing the student fleeing with the stick after the attack went viral on social media, sparking widespread outrage among students, teachers and parents.

Former students also posted photos on various social media groups, demanding punishment. On Tuesday morning, they gathered at the institution and staged protests calling for action against the student.

Students resumed classes after Principal Mustafizar Rahman announced the student's permanent expulsion through a TC.

The principal said no such incident had occurred at the institution in the past 20 years.

He added that the teacher would take legal action against the student over the assault.
