Chittagong City Corporation moves to reduce dust pollution by spraying water

People suffer from respiratory diseases due to dust pollution

Update : 18 Oct 2020, 08:26 PM

Aiming to reduce dust pollution during the dry season, Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) has launched a water-spraying program in the port city.

On the first day of the program on Sunday, the corporation authorities sprayed water from Tigerpass intersection to Badamtoli, Agrabad in the city.

While inaugurating the program, CCC Administrator Khorshed Alam Sujon said that dust pollution has increased in the city due to the road-digging of many agencies including Chittagong Wasa.

“The service-providing agencies must take the sufferings of the city dwellers into account while implementing development activities. People are suffering from many diseases due to dust pollution. This water-spraying program will continue in the city.” he said.

Sujon also requested the government agencies like Chittagong Port Authority, Wasa, CDA and Fire Service to spray water in their respective premises to reduce dust pollution.

According to the health experts, toxic air and dust pollution can cause diseases like asthma, bronchitis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, nasal allergy and rhinitis.

Doctors say the high level of air pollution increases the number of patients with coughing and breathing problems in winter.

The port city’s air is thick with dust due to construction of residential buildings, elevated expressway, and digging of roads by the utility service organizations.
