Police have arrested a youth for allegedly raping a nine-year-old disabled girl in Sarishabari of Jamalpur.
The arrestee was identified as Arif Mia, 19, a neighbour of the victim's family. He is a resident of Bogarpar Pukurpar village under the upazila.
Talking to Dhaka Tribune, Sarishabari police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abu Md Fazlul Karim said police arrested Arif soon after the victim's father filed a written complaint over the matter on Friday afternoon.
According to the complaint, the incident took place in Bogarpar Pukurpar area on October 13 when the girl was at home alone after her father, a rickshaw-puller by profession, went out for work while her mother was working in a nearby field.
At that moment, Arif entered the house and raped her, it said.
Process of filing a case was underway, the OC said.
