A 14-year-old girl was drugged and raped on Saturday by a 21-year-old during a visit to her maternal grandmother’s house in Narayanganj Bandar upazila.
On Monday, the teenager testified before Narayanganj Senior Judicial Magistrate Fahmida Khatun under section 22 of the Code of Criminal Procedure.
Narayanganj Port police station OC Fakhruddin Bhuiyan confirmed the matter to Dhaka Tribune on Tuesday.
Earlier on Sunday, the rape survivor’s mother filed a case against three young men for rape, and aiding and abetting in rape, under the Prevention of Women and Child Repression Act, 2020.
The main accused is Zahid, 21, of Bandar upazila’s Nabiganj Boro Bari area and the other two accused for aiding and abetting the rape are his younger brother, Asif, and his cousin, Rohan.
According to case details, due to the closure of schools amid coronavirus, the eighth grader came for a vacation to her maternal home on September 18. On October 3, around 7:30pm, upon finding the house empty, the three accused added sleeping pills to the cold drinks of the teenager and her grandmother. Once they fell asleep, they took the sedated young girl to another room. With the help of his brother and cousin, Zahid then raped her.
Hearing her screams, neighbours rushed to the house and the accused fled the scene.
Speaking on the matter, Narayanganj Port police OC Fakhruddin said the girl’s testimony was recorded before a court under section 22 of the Code of Criminal Procedure. Evidence of rape has also been found. Police are trying to arrest the accused and bring them into custody.
