Locals found a newborn boy left abandoned at Golkhali Mohashoshan area by the Kaliganj road in Satkhira on Sunday evening.
Upon finding the baby inside a shopping bag in a pile of rubbish, locals admitted him to the Kaliganj Upazila Health Complex.
"The baby was born 3 to 4 hours before it was admitted to our hospital," said Kaliganj Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Dr Sheikh Taiyebur Rahman.
Three people among the locals said they discovered the baby in the pile of rubbish when he was crying due to being bitten by ants.
Kaliganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md Mozammel Haque Rasel said the baby would be sent for adoption.
