A suspected robber, presumed to be aged 35, was killed in a mob beating in Moddhom Bijoypur village of Sadar Dakkhin (South) upazila in Comilla early Monday.
The identity of the deceased could not be confirmed yet, said Sadar Dakkhin Model police station Officer-in-Charge Md Nazrul Islam.
According to Nazrul Islam a gang of 10 to 12 robbers entered the home of one Iya Khan in Moddhom Bijoypur village of Sadar Dakkhin (South) upazila with weapons at around 4am on Monday. Sensing the presence of the robbers, the members of the family started srcreaming and villagers caught red handed the two of the robbers.
However, one of the robbers managed to escape from the scene, but villagers beat the other robber to death on the spot. Being informed of the incident, police reached the village and recovered the dead body of the robber, he said.
“The dead body was sent to Comilla Medical College Hospital for autopsy. Members of Police Bureau Investigation (PBI) collected fingerprints of the dead robber to pin down identity.”
Meanwhile a case was filed against 700/800 unnamed people following the death of the robber, the police added.
