Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Wahida Khanam’s condition has improved further, and she is now able to move the fingers of her right hand, which was paralyzed due to the attack on her.
Prof Zahed Hossain, head of the medical board formed for Wahida’s treatment, made the statement on Thursday afternoon when asked about her condition.
Dr Hossain termed Wahida’s ability to move her fingers “ a great improvement” of her physical condition.
“We can say she has improved a lot, as she can now move the fingers of her right hand, though not the whole hand yet. That means we can say (more) improvement is possible,” he said.

“ It is great news that she is moving the fingers of her right hand. We are a little more optimistic now, because she is getting the control of her right hand back,” the doctor added.
He further said Wahida’s level of consciousness had been good from the beginning; she was able to recognize her husband before. She is speaking slowly and also eating light food.
Asked when Wahida would be shifted cabin, Dr Hossain said: “ We are not going to move her right now, as she may get visitors. We may move her later.”

Wahida, UNO of Ghoraghat upazila in Dinajpur, was critically wounded when a group of miscreants broke into her government residence in the early hours of September 3 and attacked her.
Her father, Omar Ali, 70, was also gravely injured when he tried to save his daughter.
Both were first taken to Rangpur Medical College Hospital. Later, the UNO was shifted to the ICU of Rangpur Community Medical College Hospital.
Later in the afternoon, Wahida was airlifted to Dhaka and admitted to the National Institute of Neuroscience and Hospital (NINH).
Her right side was paralyzed due to the attack.
