Dr Zafrullah Chowdhury, the founder of Gonoshasthaya Kendra, has said that the government should give Tk10 lakh at least to each family who has lost their kin at the blast and fire at a mosque in Narayanganj.
"The probe body should investigate the matter with the highest sincerity and also confirm proper punishment to the responsible people,” he said during his visit in the area Sunday afternoon.
He also expressed his frustration towards the steps the government has taken in response to the incident, quoting it as not enough.
Meanwhile, a probe body formed by the Fire Service has also inspected the area.
Nur Hossain, deputy director of Fire Service and Civil Defence, said: "Our investigation is almost complete. We will submit the report in due time. "
On Saturday, Sub-Inspector Humayun Kabir of Fatullah Model police station lodged a case regarding the incident, confirmed Mehedi Imran Siddiqi, additional superintendent of police of Narayanganj.
He said: "At least three probe bodies have been conducting their investigation regarding the incident.
"We will take legal action against any people or organisation if they are found to be guilty irrespective of their position," added the officer.
Till Sunday afternoon, at least 24 people, who suffered severe burn injuries in the air conditioner explosion during prayers at Baitus Salah Jame Mosque at Fatullah in Narayanganj on Friday night, died at Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in Dhaka.
Dozens of people were also injured in the blast and are currently undergoing treatment at the burn institute.
Meanwhile, three separate probe bodies have been formed to investigate the matter.
This story has been corrected. The previous version had said that Dr Zafrullah will give Tk10 lakh to each victim family.
