3 killed in fuel tank blast at Chittagong container depot

The explosion occurred when workers were repairing the fuel tank of a lorry at the depot

Three workers were killed and three others sustained critical burn injuries in a fuel tank explosion at an inland container depot in Patenga of Chittagong city Wednesday morning.

The deceased have been identified as Moktar Hossain, Newaz Uddin and Md Arman.

According to the Agrabad Control Room of Fire Service and Civil Defence, the accident took place around 11:40am at an Inland Container Depot (ICD) of Incontrade Ltd located at Laldiar Char, East Patenga of the city.

Ruhul Amin Shikder, secretary of Bangladesh Inland Container Depot Association (BICDA) told the Dhaka Tribune that the accident occurred following a fuel tank explosion.

Speaking to Dhaka Tribune, Ali Akbar, deputy assistant director of Chittagong Fire Service and Civil Defence said: "The workers were wielding the fuel tank of a lorry when the explosion occurred inside the container depot.”

“The three workers died on the spot while the injured workers were whisked off to Chittagong Medical College Hospital,” said the official, adding that bodies were handed over to the Patenga police station.
