A woman was murdered reportedly by her brother after she refused a marriage arrangement in Rosulpur village of Hatia upazila in Noakhali.
The deceased Kulsuma Begum, 22, is the daughter of Ziaul Hoque of Rosulpur village.
Police on Sunday arrested Kulsum's brother Shafi Alam, 25, after a case was filed against him by their father Ziaul in connection with the matter.
On Friday, Kulsum refused a marriage arrangement with a man her family has chosen for her. An argument broke out between the brother and sister that day during which Shafi strangled his sister and, as she fell unconscious, he threw her into a nearby pond.
Her family members later recovered Kulsum's body from the pond.
Hatia police station Officer-in-Charge Md Abul Khayer said the body was sent to Noakhali General Hospital morgue for autopsy.
