Update : 04 Jun 2017, 11:55 PM
A housewife, whose wrist was cut off and an eye gouged out by her husband for barring him from an an extramarital affair, is in great uncertainty to get justice. The victim, Moyna Khatun, 27, from Shyamnagar upazila of Satkhira, said the administration, including police, was not taking action against her husband Shahinur Rahman as the incident took place in India. Her maternal uncle Mujibar Rahman said: “Moyna and her husband along with their children went to India for making a living two years ago. But, after going there, he harmed Morna physically.” Moyna was brought bank home on June 2 through Benapole land port, he said. Meanwhile, Moyna said Shahinur used to beat her up for dowry. “But, he intensified his torture on me after I barred him from continuing an extramarital affair that he had developed with a local hindu woman in Kolkata,” she said. “One month ago, he cut off my left wrist and gouged out the left eye,” she said, adding that neighbours rescued and took her to a local hospital. However, local Union Parishad chairman and police said they do not really have much to do about the incident since it had occurred in India. The culprit, nonetheless, could not be reached physically since he is still in India. He was even unavailable over phone. Atulia Union Parishad Chairman Abu Saleh said he suggested Moyna and her relatives to contact police since the incident happened in India. Shyamnagar police station Officer-in-Charge Syed Mannan said: “As the crime scene was not in Bangladesh, we have nothing to do in this regard. Then again, we would take action following investigation after the victim files a complaint with us.”
