The authorities of Denim Processing Plant Ltd on Thursday allegedly assaulted two journalists for reporting the rape of a garment worker in Belasahar area of Chandina upazila in Comilla.
The journalists are Md Abdul Baten and Md Jakir Hossain, local correspondents of Daily Jugantor and Jaijaidin.
A team of 12 people led by Denim Processing Plant owner’s cousin launched the attack at 7:45am while they were heading to Jakir’s house.
The attackers also snatched away their phones and camera, said Abdul Baten.
Being contacted, garment factory’s Director Md Alamgir Hossain said the journalists published fake report of rape to tarnish the image of the factory.
Chandina police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Abul Faisal said the attack on the journalists was confirmed through a CCTV footage. “Legal action will be taken against the attackers.”
On July 6, an RMG worker was gang-raped while she was returning from her workplace at 9 pm, he said adding that they also arrested three accused over the matter, the OC said.
