At least 4 farmers have gone missing after two engine-run boats capsized in Padma River in Kushtia.
The incident took place near Ghoshpur Government Primary School under Sadipur union in Kumarkhali upazila at around 8:30am on Tuesday.
The missing, identified as Jewel, 30, Jakir, 25, Shariful,31, and Juba,32, are from Jamalpur village under Bahadurpur union in Bheramara upazila of the district.
According to eyewitnesses, 13 farmers were going to the char areas in Kumarkhali upazila from Jamalpur village in Bheramara upazila for cutting grass on two engine-run boats. When the boats reached Ghoshpur Government Primary School in Sadipur union, both capsized in the Padma River due to strong current. However, 9 of the farmers managed to reach ashore while 4 others remain missing.
Regarding the matter, Kumarkhali Fire Service and Civil Defence Officer Amiyo Kumar Biswas said: “We could not reach the Sadipur area yet where the boats capsized as it is a remote area. But a team of divers from Pabna are currently working there."
