The woman’s uncle claimed that Faruk had been trying to force her into selling contrabands

A woman's left eye was damaged when a scissor was shoved into it, reportedly by her husband, in Tangail's Kalihati upazila on Sunday.

Seven years ago the woman married Faruk Hossain, who allegedly committed the crime, according to the victim’s uncle Khokon Miya.

"They were happy a few years after their marriage and had a girl child two years ago. With Faruk's father working abroad he and his mother began dealing in narcotics," said Khokon.

Khokon further claimed that Faruk had been trying to force the woman into selling contrabands, which she refused.

Khokon said: "Often they had disputes and because of this arbitration took place more than once. A year ago, Akhi left Faruk and started working at a garment factory in Gazipur. At that time Faruk threatened to kill her.

"During the month of Ramadan this year, Faruk went to Akhi's home in Gazipur and injured her with a sharp weapon. Although a general diary was filed in connection with the matter, he again attacked Akhi."

"On early Sunday morning, Faruk broke into her father's home where she had been staying, and shoved a scissor into her eye," said Khokon, adding that locals rushed to the spot upon hearing her scream but couldn't locate Faruk anywhere.

Dr Shafiqul Islam Shojib, resident medical officer of Tangail 250 Bed General Hospital said the woman’s left eye is severely injured, she may lose sight in that. "She was sent to Dhaka for better treatment."

Local Union Parishad member Anwar Hossain said he has heard that Faruk is involved with drug dealing.

Kalihati police station OC Hasan Al Mamun said necessary actions will be taken after an investigation into the matter.
