Family members of a 16-year-old girl gave their confessional statement in front of a Brahmanbaria court regarding their honor killing in Nasirnagar upazila.

Laiju Akhter was killed by her father Sonu Miya, maternal uncle Maju Miya and brother Adam Ali on the night of June 23, according to the confessional statement of the latter two.

Maju and Adam gave their confessional statement under the section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrCP) respectively on Monday and Sunday before the court of Senior Judicial Magistrate Farzana Ahmed.

Laiju was strangled with a piece of scarf by the trio a day after Maju saw her in an intimate situation with a local youth in an isolated place of Dharmandal village on June 22.

On Saturday, the girl's mother filed a case against a few people in connection with the incident, without naming them.

Nasirnagar police station Officer-in-Charge(OC)  Kabir Hossain said the girl's family was initially hesitant to file a case after her partially decomposed body was discovered in a water-body at Lombahati area of Dharmandal village.

Being suspicious of the matter, police targetted the victim's family and the murder incident came to light after arresting and interrogating Maju, the OC said.

"Additional Superintendent of Police Mozammel Hossain Reza  (Sadar circle) unearthed the murder mystery within the shortest possible time," added OC Kabir.

Talking with several policemen in the area this correspondent found there exists a tendency of victim blaming among the law enforcers. They said: "The victim used to move recklessly" and "She was friends with several boys."
