The overall flood situation in Jamalpur worsened further as the Jamuna River was flowing 84 cm above the danger mark at Bahadurabad Ghat point in Dewanganj upazila as of Tuesday morning.
Jamalpur Water Development Board Gauge Reader Abdul Mannan confirmed the matter.
Many new parts of the district namely Mahmudpur, Durmudh, Nangla, Kulia, Fulkocha and Jhahgora unions under Melandah upazila have been inundated as the water level in the Jamuna River keeps rising.
Due to the floods, around 250,000 people of 38 unions and five municipalities are currently stranded and houses of a good number of people living in low-lying areas have also been inundated in the district.
The flood-hit people are in need of dry food and drinking water and road communications have been disrupted heavily.
Around 305 families have been shifted to 10 flood shelters as their houses went under water, said district Relief and Rehabilitation Officer Md Nayeb Ali. "Tk5 lakh and 60 tons of rice have been allocated for the flood affected people." he added.
Around 10,000 hectares of cropland, including paddy and vegetables, in the district has gone under water, said Aminul Islam, deputy director of department of agriculture extension.
