Abdul Hamid, upazila parishad chairman and president of upazila unit of Awami League has been diagnosed with the coronavirus in Lalmai upazila. He also is the elder brother of Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal.
Golam Sarwar, Sadar Dakshin upazila parishad chairman and younger brother of the finance minister confirmed the matter Tuesday night.
He said Abdul Hamid’s report came back as positive report on Monday. He is currently doing well and is in home isolation at Jhautala. He has no symptoms other than fever. Meanwhile, samples have been collected from everyone in his family.”
According to local sources, since the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic, Abdul Hamid and Golam Sarwar have been delivering food supplies to the needy in Comilla Sadar Dakshin and Lalmai upazila.
Lalmai Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Jayashish Roy said so far 18 people have been affected by the coronavirus in the upazila.
So far, reports of 288 samples came back after 341 samples were collected in the upazila. Of these, 18 people have been identified as Covid-19 positive while two died of the virus.
