A sixth-grade schoolgirl was reportedly raped by her sixty-year-old distant relative in Homna upazila of Comilla.

The accused Abdul Matin, whom the girl called “Nana” (grandfather), as he was her uncle's father-in-law, is currently on the run.

The girl’s mother filed a case with Homna police station on Friday, following the incident on Thursday.

The girl's mother said: "I was working with my husband on the field when my daughter and three-year-old son were sleeping in the house. Matin finding my daughter alone, entered my home and raped my daughter after binding her hands, feet, and mouth."

The girl's uncle said: "Matin's son has threatened us for withdrawing the case."

According to the case statement, Matin lived in the same neighbourhood. On Thursday, the girl's cousin heard her screams and saw Matin in the act.

Homna police station OC Abdul Kayes Akand said the accused had been absconding and they are conducting drives to arrest him. "The girl has been sent to the hospital for treatment and legal action will be taken against his sons if it is found that they have been intimidating the girl's family to withdraw the case."
