An eight-year-old child has been raped reportedly by a teenager at Khaliajuri upazila in Netrakona.
The incident took place at Kholapara village under Mendipur union on Sunday evening and police arrested the suspected teenager after the incident, confirmed Khaliajuri police station OC ATM Mahmudul Haque.
The accused, a 15-year-old boy, is a neighbour of the child. Finding her alone on Sunday evening, he took her to a deserted place and raped her, sources said.
After the family learnt about the incident, they took the child to Mohanganj Upazila Health Complex.
OC Mahmudul said procedures were underway to lodge a case over the matter.
Meanwhile, police held a man on Monday for allegedly attempting to rape a child at Hili in Dinajpur.
The girl’s father had filed a case at Hakimpur police station against the detainee on Sunday, confirmed the station’s OC Abdur Razzak Akond.
According to case details, the accused is a step-grandfather of the child. He tried to rape the child in the early hours of Sunday at his house, where the child had gone for a sleepover with her grandmother.
However, the man fled the scene when the neighbours came to her rescue after hearing her screams.
