A suspected drug dealer was killed in a reported gunfight with the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in Jessore.
The incident took place in Buikara village of Jessore's Abhaynagar upazila around 7pm on Thursday.
The deceased is Maruf, son of Moslem Miya of the village.
Lt Col Rowshan Firoz, commanding officer of RAB 6, Khulna, confirmed the incident.
Acting on a tipoff, a RAB team conducted a drive at Buikara village, where 5 to 6 'drug dealers' opened fire upon RAB. RAB fired back in self defence and managed to catch one of the dealers who was injured, said Lt Col Firoz.
Drug dealer Maruf was declared dead after he was taken to a nearby hospital and two of the RAB team were injured in the incident, Lt Col Firoz added.
RAB recovered a 9mm pistol and 96 bottles of phensedyl from the scene, according to Firoz.
A case was filed with Abhaynagar police station for the incident.
