A physician of Gharinda Union Health Complex of Tangail has found positive for coronavirus, making it the first case of a doctor being infected with the deadly virus in the district.
The physician is the 24th person to be infected with the virus in the district, and the first infected person in Sadar upazila, confirmed Tangail Civil Surgeon Dr Md Wahidujjaman.
He said: “We sent 105 samples to Dhaka on Wednesday among which only the doctor’s test results came out positive on Thursday.”
Speaking to Dhaka Tribune, Dr Rampada Rai, health officer of Sadar upazila said: “The physician was suffering from headache, body ache and some other coronavirus like symptoms, so we sent his samples to Dhaka.”
“The doctor was in charge of taking samples of the suspected coronavirus patients before, but he was directed to not to take any samples after reporting his symptoms to us,” added the doctor.
The doctor was sent to the Tangail General Hospital and his house along with six adjacent houses in Collegepara area were declared locked down, said UNO Atikul Islam.
