A 17-year-old boy murdered a woman and her three children after the family detected him while he was attempting to steal valuables from their house in Sreepur upazila of Gazipur.
The accused youth initially attacked the two daughters of the family, aged 16 and 11, with a chopper. While the girls were already in agony from the wounds, he raped them before killing them by slitting their throats, the youth told police.
The boy gave a confessional statement under Section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) before a Gazipur court on Monday about the recent murders he committed, confirmed Inspector Hafizur Rahman of Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI).
Fatema Begum, 40, her two daughters Nura, 16, Haurin, 11, and her mentally challenged son Fadil, 7, are victims of the murder incident that took place in the early hours of Friday in Jainabazar area of the upazila.
On Friday around 12:30am, the killer used an opening in a bathroom on the second floor of the victims’ residence to get in, he told police during preliminary interrogation.
The accused teenage said he went inside the house to steal mobile phones. He hid himself in Nura and Haurin’s bedroom for an hour, then brought a chopper from the kitchen to break open Fatema’s door.

The boy hacked at Fatema indiscriminately with the chopper when she saw him and shouted. He then hacked Fadil, Nura, and Haurin, when they woke up from sleep hearing the noise. He killed Fadil first, then raped the injured Nura and Haurin before slitting all of their throats to make sure they were dead, he stated in his confession to police.
Fatema’s husband is an ex-pat currently living in Malaysia. Sreepur police station OC Liakat Ali said the victim’s father-in-law filed a case with the police station on the day of the incident.
The youth is also an accused in a case filed for murdering a seven-year-old girl, Nilima, on February 22 of 2018. Court kept him on parole considering his age after a charge-sheet was framed against him, said OC Liakat.
Gazipur Police Bureau of Investigation Inspector Hafizur Rahman said the court has sent the accused to Juvenile Correction Centre in Tongi for now.
