The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has seized 85 sacks of government rice from a warehouse in Akkelpur upazila of Joypurhat.
The battalion on Monday evening also detained Mehedi Hasan, a dealer of the government's food friendly program at Sonamukhi union, on the allegation of storing and selling the rice illegally.
Mehedi is a resident of Kola Ganipur village under Akkelpur upazila.
Joypurhat RAB 5 Camp Commander Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Mohaimenur Rashid said Mehedi was illegally selling the government rice allocated for the union under the food friendly program.
Based on the allegation, the RAB personnel conducted a drive at his personal warehouse at Kanthalbari in the evening and seized the rice, he said.
A case was filed with Akkelpur police station in this connection, the RAB official added.
