Four more people have tested positive for Covid-19 on Monday at the Covid-19 laboratory set up at the Department of Microbiology of Rangpur Medical College (RMC).
“Out of the total 94 samples tested today, four suspected Covid-19 patients were found positive,” Chief of the Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and RMC Principal Prof Dr AKM Nurunnabi Laizu told BSS.
The number of Covid-19 infected patients rose to 19 with the detection of the four infected patients on Monday, including two in Gaibandha and one each in Nilphamari and Kurigram districts in Rangpur division.
Dr Laizu said all four of the newly detected Covid-19 positive patients recently came from Dhaka and Narayanganj.
Currently, the district-wise breakup of the Covid-19 infected patients stands at two in Rangpur, four in Nilphamari, eight in Gaibandha, three in Thakurgaon and one each in Lalmonirhat and Kurigram districts in the division.
“Since the beginning of testing on April 3, we tested the highest number of samples (94) of suspected Covid-19 infected patients today at the Covid-19 Laboratory,” Dr. Laizu added.
Head of the Department of Microbiology of RMC and Superintendent of its Covid-19 Laboratory Associate Professor Dr Mostakimur Rahman said a total of 588 collected samples have so far been tested at the laboratory since April 3.
“Earlier, we tested 81 samples on April 12, 55 samples on April 11, 91 on April 10, 89 on April 9, 56 on April 8, 53 on April 7, 27 on April 6 and 42 samples on the first day on April 3 at the laboratory,” Dr Rahman said.
With the assistance of the Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR), testing of collected samples of suspected Covid-19 infected patients of Rangpur division is running smoothly at the Covid-19 Laboratory.
