A six-month-old infant boy, with symptoms of coronavirus infection, died at the Flu Corner of Khulna Medical College and Hospital (KMCH) early Saturday.
The child, who was suffering from pneumonia, was admitted to the hospital on Friday afternoon, said Shoilendranath Biswas, spokesperson of the flu corner set up adjacent to the hospital.
Later, physicians transferred him to the new unit to further examine his symptoms, he said.
The infant died around 12am on Saturday while undergoing treatment, he said.
"Samples have been collected from the baby to determine if he had contracted the new coronavirus," Shoilendranath said, adding that the samples were sent to Khulna Medical College laboratory for examination.
As many as six individuals were admitted to the flu corner till 12pm on Saturday, he added.
