3 physicians, 15 medical staffers quarantined in Chittagong

19 homes locked down, after man dies of Covid-19 in Shariatpur: Of the two people that died on Saturday from the new coronavirus (Covid-19), one was a resident of Naria upazila. After his death, the civil administration has locked down 19 homes and locals markets in the neighboring area. Deputy Commissioner Kazi Abu Taher confirmed the matter. The deceased was positively identified for Covid-196 and was undergoing treatment at Kuwait Bangladesh Friendship Government Hospital when passed away on Saturday, reports a correspondent from Shariatpur.

3 physicians, 15 medical staffers quarantined in Chittagong: Three physicians and 15 staffers including nurses and ward boys of a private hospital in Chittagong have been placed in home-quarantine as they came into contact with a coronavirus patient there. The doctors and the health workers were isolated on Friday evening. Their samples have been collected for tests, reports BSS, quoting Chittagong Civil Surgeon Sheikh Fazle Rabbi. A 67-year-old man in Chittagong tested positive for coronavirus on Friday, making him the port city’s first confirmed case of the virus.

Youth returning from Dhaka with fever put in quarantine: A young man—ill with fever, headache and cold—was kept in home-quarantine in Gachbari village of Kurigram municipality, after he returned from Dhaka. Confirming the matter, Civil Surgeon Dr Habibur Rahman said his samples were collected and sent to Rangpur Medical College Hospital on Saturday to look for coronavirus infection. One of the locals said neighbours are in panic, while hospitals are unwilling to admit him.

Hotline for food service in Rajshahi: Rajshahi launched a hotline service to supply food among the needy amid the ongoing countrywide shutdown to prevent the spread of coronavirus. Deputy Commissioner (DC) Md Hamidul Hoque addressed people of Rajshahi in a Facebook status Friday night. In his status he said any poor families can order food supplies by contacting the hotline number. Sources from the DC office said they were able to deliver food supplies within 20 minutes, after one contacted the hotline number.

Man detained for assisting OMS rice theft: A man was detained for storing 18 sacks of open market sale (OMS) rice which was supposed to be sold at Tk10 per kg in Bagerhat. Acting on a tip-off, Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) with his team conducted a drive at Tafalbari market in Sarankhola upazila on Friday and seized the rice. The detained is warehouse owner Liton Munshi. Police are trying to detain Tarekul Islam Tarek who made the illegal deal with Liton.

Man dies, one missing in speedboat collision: A man was killed in a head-on collision between two speedboats in the Padma River in Sakhipur upazila of Shariatpur early Saturday. The deceased is Alamin, 22. Another 28-year-old man went missing, said Chandpur Model police station Sub-Inspector Rashed. Locals said the speedboats were transporting huge amount of juvenile fish caught from Rajrajeshwar and Jahajmara area.

Fire guts rickshaw garage in Brahmanbaria: A fire burnt down 26 auto-rickshaws at a garage in Adra Anantapur market of Kasba upazila. Kasba upazila Fire Service and Civil Defence personnel reached the spot an hour after the fire broke out at 1am on Saturday. They doused the fire after an hour. Victims claimed they incurred a loss of around Tk1crore. UNO Md Masudul Alam said the victims will be compensated as per the directives of Brahmanbaria-4 (Kasba-Akhaura) MP Anisul Haque.
