Several villages across the country under lockdown

A total of 2,893 people are currently in home-quarantine in Satkhira while 696 got released on completion of their term

The local administration has put several villages under lockdown to curb the spread of coronavirus across the country on Friday.

In Narayanganj, At least 100 families in Rosulbagh area of Bandar upazila were placed under lockdown on Thursday night after a woman who died earlier in the area tested positive for coronavirus.

Bandar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Shukla Sarkar said: "The 45-year-old woman, suffering from respiratory problem went to Narayanganj General Hospital for treatment on March 29 first and later, as the woman's condition deteriorated; she was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH). She was referred to Kurmitola General Hospital by the duty doctors and she died on her way there on March 30.

On Thursday, IEDCR confirmed that the woman was infected with coronavirus which prompted the administration to lock down the area, she said. 

The official also said that during the lockdown, the families will be given all-out help, our local correspondent Shamima Rita reported.

When contacted, Civil Surgeon Dr Mohammad Imtiaz said: "We are collecting samples from the family members of the deceased now."

In Satkhira, several houses were placed under lockdown following the death of a college boy suffering from fever, cold, and respiratory problem at Narayanpur village in Sadar upazila.

The deceased was identified as Hasan Ali, 20, a 2nd-year student of Jhaudanga College and son of Baharul Islam of the village, reports UNB.

Superintendent of Police of the district Mostafizur Rahman said several houses around the deceased's house were put under lockdown following his death.

He also said people will have to stay in home-quarantine until the result from IEDCR comes.

Meanwhile, 49 more overseas returnees were sent to home-quarantine in the district in the last 24 hours. With this, a total of 2,893 people are currently in home-quarantine in the district while 696 got released on completion of their term.

In Comilla, two houses of coronavirus suspects were placed under lockdown in Jhograr Char and Khodedaidpur villages in Homna upazila.

Homna Upazila Nirbahi Officer Tapti Chakma said both of the suspects came home from Dhaka four days ago with fever and cough, reports UNB.

Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Dr Abdus Salam Shikder said they collected samples from the suspects for testing.
