7 killed in road accidents

At least seven people, including a schoolboy were killed and 12 others injured in separate road accidents in Tangail and Gopalganj districts yesterday.

In Tangail, at least six people were killed and 10 others injured in a road accident on the Dhaka-Tangail Highway in Kandila of Sadar upazila.

Of the deceased, four were identified as Aleq, 45, Delwar Hossain Babu, 30, Julhash Ali, 50, and Abdullah, 30, said Elenga highway police outpost in-charge Kamal Hossain

Kamal said: "A cement-laden truck heading north from Dhaka, hit a road divider in Kandila and turned over as its driver lost control over steering, leaving five people dead on the spot and 11 others injured."

The injured were rushed to Tangail General Hospital where one of the injured succumbed, he added.

All the victims were returning home amid the risk of coronavirus outbreak, said Kamal Hossain.

In Gopalganj, a schoolboy was killed after being hit by a pickup van on Dhaka- Khulna highway in Borashur area in Kashiani upazila. 

The deceased identified as Imran Khan,13 was the son of Nur Uddin from Parulia village of the upazila, said Kashani police station Sub-Inspector Abdus Salam.

Salam said: "An egg-laden pick-up van hit an auto-rickshaw in Borashur area at noon, leaving Imran dead on the spot and injuring two others from the vehicle."

The injured were identified as Imran father Nur Uddin and his brother Sakil, he added.
