Covid-19: Public places earmarked so people maintain safe distance

'Coronavirus is now a pandemic that is sweeping the world. Therefore, all have been asked to maintain social distance to stem the spread of this infection.'

Common people—shopping for daily necessities and medicines—were seen standing inside white marked zones in front of grocery shops and pharmacies in Bandarban, Rangpur, and Tangail.

In Bandarban, a group of local youths drew these white circles/squares in front of a number of grocery shops and pharmacies, so people may maintain a safe distance of at least three feet from each other while waiting at these places.

This intuitive initiative taken in Alikadam upazila and Bandarban town, follows the lockdown order on three upazilas—Lama, Alikadam and Naikhongchhari—issued by the district administration on Tuesday to stem the spread of novel coronavirus (Covid-19).

The local youths have also been making public service announcement to raise awareness on the latest threat faced worldwide, earning them praise from locals and netizens alike.

To avoid contact with others, consumers were seen standing inside the squares, waiting for their turns to make their desired purchases on Thursday, reports BSS

Lauding the imitative, consumer Akram Hossain urged everyone to maintain social distancing everywhere to prevent community transmission of Covid-19.

In Tangail, police on Friday drew similar white circles for people to stand inside while they wait to purchase their daily necessities.

Police carried out the initiative in five areas of the city, including Pachani Bazar, Chhoyani Bazar, and new market.

Tangail Superintendent of Police (SP) Sanjit Kumar Roy said: “Coronavirus is now a pandemic that is sweeping the world. Therefore, all have been asked to maintain social distance to stem the spread of this infection. 

“So, to prevent crowd forming in front of stores selling essential commodities, the circles have been drawn which are three feet apart from each other.”
