Coronavirus: Authorities lock down brothel in Jamalpur

The lockdown started on Sunday  and will continue for a month at least until further notice

The Jamalpur District Administration has locked down a brothel in Raniganj Bazar of the municipality to prevent the spread of the pandemic coronavirus.

The lockdown started on Sunday  and will continue for a month at least until further notice, said a meeting body yesterday, held by the Coronavirus Prevention Committee formed in the district.

Jamalpur Deputy Commissioner and President of the committee, Enamul Haque said they will provide 30kg of rice to each family in that area during the lockdown and directed the authorities to not collect bills for rent, electricity, and water from residents.

According to the Jamalpur municipality register, there are 97 active sex workers, 50 elderlies, and 2 guards living in the brothel.

However, local sources say the brothel is consisting of 178 rooms, with over 200 sex workers living there.
