Cattle trader pushed back to Bangladesh, after two years in jail: A Bangladeshi cattle trader –who served two years in Jalpaiguri jail for illegally intruding into India– was handed over to the Bangladesh authorities on Wednesday in Patgram, Lalmonirhat. “Nuruzzaman Miah, 35, was arrested by Indian Border Security Force (BSF) in 2018 for illegally entering and trading in cattle in India and after serving 26 months in jail was handed over to us,” said Immigration police Sub-inspector Anowar Hossain of Burimari Landport.

Teen 'lovers' commit suicide back to back in Joypurhat: Two teenagers –who were allegedly in love– committed suicide within 12 hours of each other in Joypurhat. Police recovered the body of Nabila Chowdhury, a tenth grader of a local school from her house Tuesday around 9pm and her alleged lover 11'th grader Imran's body from a drug addiction treatment centre on Wednesday around 8pm, said Sadar police OC Shahriar Khan. They left suicide notes which referred to the disputes they were having in their alleged affair, he added.

Journalist imposters' arrested in Cox's Bazar: Police arrested two people –who had been extorting money by passing themselves off as journalists– from separate areas of the port city on Tuesday and on Wednesday. The arrestees, Monsur Alam Munna, 25, and Shakhawat Hossain, 21, were collecting money from local shops by posing as TV journalists. They are accused of engaging in other unlawful offences as well, according to Sadar police OC Shahjahan Kabir. Cases have been filed against them and they were sent to jail through the court, he added.

Madaripur UP member 'loots' expatriate's property: A union parishad member allegedly led a team of 20-25 youths to the home of an expatriate from Italy and looted his properties in Sadar's Mohisherchar area on Wednesday. The accused, Kalam Shikder, denied the allegations but the victim Kazi Ruhul Amin said Kalam had long been trying to extort money from him but when he refused to oblige him, Kalam led a gang of miscreants to his house. Superintendent of police Md Mahbub Hasan said legal action would be taken if the allegations proved to be true.

BGB arrests five people with drugs: Border Guard Bangladesh arrested five people from Madra border of Satkhira's Kalaroa on Tuesday night with drugs and illegal mobile phones. The arrestees, Iqbal, Ashraf, Kamal, Sohag and Rashed, were arrested on a tip-off by a BGB patrol team. They had in their possession phensedyl, 12 mobile phones, a microbus worth Tk34 lakh, said Lt Col Goulam Mohiuddin Khandakar, company commander of BGB-33 battalion.

School girl commits suicide in Panchagarh: A teenaged girl committed suicide by hanging herself to death from the ceiling of her bedroom in Tetulia on Wednesday. The deceased Halima, 15, was a tenth grader at Kazi Shahabuddin Girls' High School. “We inspected the spot but are unsure about the reason behind her death,” said Tetulia Police OCJahurul Islam. The body was sent to a morgue for autopsy, he added.

Man found dead in Thakurgaon: A man was found dead in a mango orchard in Shibganj Chikandoba area under Sadar upazila on Tuesday. The victim was identified as Shamsul Alam, 30, son of Abdul Khalek of the upazila. Local people spotted the body of Shamsul around 10 pm and informed the police about it, said Tanvirul Islam, officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station. Police later recovered the body. They suspect that miscreants might have killed him somewhere else and dumped the body there.
