Law enforcement allegedly assaulted sex workers in Jamalpur’s Raniganj brothel during an anti-narcotics drive there on Monday.
Sex workers claimed they were assaulted by members of police, Ansar and VDP during the drive by a mobile court.
Sex workers also claimed rifles were used to beat them and 7 blank shots were fired.
However, law enforcement denied the claims.
Inspector Md Humayan Kabir Bhuiyan of the Department of Narcotics Control, said: “Sex workers attacked the law enforcement. They hurled brickbats and vandalized a microbus. A case will be filed in this regard.”
Meanwhile, the mobile court has detained two people from the brothel, suspecting them of possessing drugs.
One Halim, was sentenced to three months in prison and fined Tk10,000, while another, Alam, was let go due to lack of evidence , said Executive Magistrate Md Abdullah Khan of the mobile court. He added that no blank shots were fired during the drive.
