Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) on Monday finally submitted the report on the five police officers accused of gang-raping a woman in custody at Khulna Government Railway Police (GRP) station on August 2, 2019.
The report stated that the five accused in the case did not sexually assault the woman, though it was crystal clear that the woman had been beaten mercilessly by the police.
The plaintiff’s lawyer Mominul Islam said: “We will place a ‘no confidence’ plea against the report in the court.” While plaintiff’s sister said that they will take necessary steps after talking to the victim.
At a press briefing, PBI Khulna Superintendent Mohammad Anisur Rahman claimed: “The Khulna GRP arrested the woman on August 2, 2019, at Fultola, after she was found carrying five bottles of phensedyl on an inbound train from Benapole to Khulna.
“The woman on August 3, 2019, lodged a case against Khulna Railway police station Officer–In- Charge of Usman Gani Pathan, along with four other officers, for gang-raping her during the time she was kept in custody,” added Anisur Rahman.
Later, the victim lodged a case against the assaulters in court. The court then asked a medical board to be formed to ascertain whether the victim had been sexually assaulted. Officer- In- Charge of the case, Assistant Police Superintendent (Kustia Railway Zone) Firoz Ahmed, lodged a case against the accused in court on September 23 , 2019, accusing all five of gang-raping the woman.
According to Abu Bokor, investigating officer of PBI, although the woman was brutally beaten by the men that night, she had not been sexually assaulted.
