An eight-year-old girl fell ill during a school picnic in Comilla Sadar upazila, and later died at a hospital on Thursday.
The deceased Fouzia Arefin Samiun, a second-grade student of Eleven Care Academy in Lakshmipur, was at an amusement park for her school picnic.
The girl reportedly became nauseated when she was playing in a pool of water at the Magic Paradise Park Thursday morning. As she fell ill, she was taken to a local hospital where she died later.
Comilla Sadar South police station OC Nazrul Islam said: "The park authorities could not tell which hospital the girl was taken to. However, we are investigating the matter."
The girl's father Giyas Uddin said he only allowed his daughter to go to the school picnic under the trust of the teachers' supervision: "Our daughter died due to the negligence of the teachers."
Eleven Care Academy Principal Riazul Islam expressed his condolences over the child's death, and said there was no negligence from the teachers.
