A fishing cat was reportedly captured in Shialjuri village of Magura Sadar upazila's Gopalgram union Saturday night.
The feline was trapped in a cage set on the bank of River Nabaganga beside the house of Sudhir Das of the village.
Sudhir's son Sukhdeb Das said he suspected their poultry was being attacked by a fox or a wildcat and he set the trap to prevent that. The cat later fell in that trap.
Villagers crowded their house to catch a glance of the cat.
Satrujitpur police camp Inspector Bisharul Islam said the captured cat looks very similar to a fishing cat.
"We will send it to the Forest Department soon, who will identify its species," he added.
