Three people, including a child, have been burnt to death and five others injured as a gas cylinder of a microbus exploded in Comilla.
The accident happened on Dhaka-Chittagong highway in Gobindapur area of Chandina upazila around 5am on Sunday.
The deceased child is Rabza, 7, daughter of Mokbul Hossain from Ashoktola area of Comilla city and the other two deceased are not yet identified.
Comilla Moynamoti highway police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Alamgir Hossain said: "The gas cylinder of the microbus went off after being hit first by a Chittagong bound bus and then by a truck, leaving three of its passengers dead and five others injured."
The injured are Rabza's mother Halima Begum, 45, Jashim Uddin, 48, Abul Kashem, 50, from Daulatpur upazila, Sajib, 20, from Dhanpur area and Mojnu Mia, 50, from Balrampur area in Sadar Dakshin upazila of the district. They received 25% to 50% of burnt injuries.
Four of the injured were admitted to Comilla Medical College Hospital and another one was taken to a local hospital. Later, all five were shifted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) as their condition deteriorated, said the OC.
The microbus and the bodies were recovered and taken to the police station, he added.
